I have a new compute node from E2E. What do i do now ?
Congratualtions. You have a new instance from e2enetworks.com. This article would help in getting started with the new instance and help you in doing first time config of your box
1. Access your box
For improved security and also to negate brute-force login attempts, Our systems are only accessible over key based SSH. https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/why-key-based-ssh-is-secure-than-password-based-access/ briefly describes why passwords should be avoided altogether.
The first thing you need to do is generate SSH keys and send it to us at support@e2enetworks.com or managed-support@e2enetworks.com (if you are a managed services customer)
The steps to generate keys are as follows
From a Linux Desktop : https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/ssh-key-generation-on-linux/
From a Macintosh : https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/sshgenerating-a-key-pair-for-mac/
From a Windows Desktop: https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/windows-to-linux-ssh-login/
2. Create your domain
Once you gain access to the box using root, the next step is to setup your website on the new instance. We recommend using virtualmin to create a domain/sub-domain and manage the same from there. Virtualmin automatically sets up the domain, creates the appropriate folders, creates the DB, permissions and configures email services for that domain. In short, everything you need to get started for a domain is done by virtualmin.
The following article would help get started with domain creation on virtualmin, https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/domain-creation-using-virtualmin/
3. Testing and DNS
Now that you have setup a new domain, its time to test the new site. An easy way to test without making any changes to DNS is to use hosts file entry. Depending upon your choice of OS on your local desktop/laptop, you can use the following documents to setup hosts file entries and test your site created using step 2
Linux : https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/hosts-entry-to-verify-websites/
Windows : https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/windows-hosts-entry-to-verify-websites/
Mac : https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/mac-hosts-entry-to-verify-websites/
Once the site testing is done, its time to work on the DNS to make the site live.
For an existing domain,
We recommend migrating your nameservers to e2e by creating the records as is on dns.e2enetworks.net.in.
For a new domain,
Assuming you have already registered for a domain at your favourite domain provider, you can setup DNS records on dns.e2enetworks.net.in using documentation available at https://www.e2enetworks.com/help/dns-entry/
4. Making the site live
Once the records are setup correctly, its time to take the site live by changing your A record on your DNS provider or on dns.e2enetworks.net.in (assuming you have migrated your DNS to us)
If you have already created the new records on dns.e2enetworks.net.in, you can change the nameservers to ns4.e2enetworks.net.in and ns5.e2enetworks.net.in to make the site live
