How to setup up your DNS records ?

Introduction:

This is an illustrative article, which will walk you through the procedure of setting up your DNS records via e2enetworks platform. DNS (Domain Name System) is a very significant sector of the internet. DNS records must be configured with perfect precision. Any inaccuracy in the setting up of the DNS record may lead to ineffecient performance of your web-site. DNS basically associates a Domain Name with an Ip address. For example, if you have purchased a domain name, say www.abcdexample.com. This domain name requires an Ip address to be processed on the Internet, and the DNS provides you with an  Ip address for your domain name. The DNS records of your Domain are very essential in associating your domain with an Ip address. Follow the steps mentioned in this article to configure your DNS records via the e2enetworks DNS server database.

Pre-requisites :

1.) A Domain Name. 2.) An Ip address (Provided by e2enetworks). 3.) Login Credentials (Provided by e2enetworks).

Follow the below mentioned steps to set up your DNS records with e2enetworks :

Step 1: Login

Click, on the below mentioned URL, to visit our POWERDNS portal: http://dns.e2enetworks.net.in Enter your login credentials and press enter. power dns

Step 2: Enter the Domain Details (Start Of Authority Records)

Once you are logged in, you will be asked for your domain information under the sub New Domain. These are known as The SOA records. Every domain requires an SOA record configuration at its point of transition, from where the domain is commisioned from its parent domain. For instance, abcdexample.com is a domain name and if you want to point this domain to the e2enetworks's DNS servers, then the SOA records for the name abcdexample.com must be configured at our DNS portal. 2016-08-04-110759_1366x768_scrot Follow the below given steps to set up the SOA records for your Domain Name. Fill in the parameters required as follows:
1.) Domain Name
Enter the exact domain name you have purchased. abcdexample.com will be used as an example domain name further.
2.) Type:
Select the type as NATIVE.
3.) Primary Name Server :
All the information related to your domain name will be stored and maintained by the Primary Name Server. Enter the Primary Name Server, exactly as mentioned below:
ns4.e2enetworks.net.in
4.) Contact :
Enter the following Email Id in the contact information:
abuse@e2enetworks.net.in
Enter the values of the last three parameters as mentioned below:
5.) Refresh = 10800.
6.) Retry = 3600.
7.) Expire = 604800.
8.) Minimum = 10800 .
incep Click Save, which will save the data entered.

Step 3: Create the Domian RR's (Resource Records)

Once you save the SOA records, the domain will be created in the e2enetworks DNS database. You will be directed to a new page, where the SOA summary of your Domain Name will be displayed. Below the summary, click New Record under the head Domain RR's. incep2 The Domain RR's are the basic information elements of the domain name system. Each record has a type (name and number), an expiration time (time to live), a class, and type-specific data. The below mentioned steps will help you in setting up each type of Resource-Record for your Domian Name : first
1.) Type-NS
NS (Name Server) record is used to delegate your domain name to our DNS database. Click on New Record  : (i) Select the Type as NS. (ii) Leave the Host column blank. (iii) Enter the TTL value as 86400. (iv) Enter ns4.e2enetworks.net.in in the Data section. Click Create. ns1 (V) Click on New Record, again: Create another NS record by repeating the  Steps (i), (ii) & (iii) . In the Step (iv), enter ns5.e2enetworks.net.in instead of ns4.e2enetworks.net.in. Click Create. ns2 In the step 5, a secondary Name Server is added as a contingency support. If the primary server (i.e ns4.e2enetworks.net.in) breaksdown at anytime, the secondary server (i.e  ns4.e2enetworks.net.in) will be able to host your domain without any lag.
2.) Type A
Type A record is used, when you need to associate a Domain Name to an Ip address. Click on New Record : (i) Select the Type as A (ii) Enter www in the host section (iii) Enter the TTL value as 14400 (iv) Enter the Ip address provided to you for your domain name on behalf of e2enetworks, in the Data Section. af Click on New Record, again. Follow the steps (i), (iii) & (iv), and in the step (ii) leave the Host field blank. Click Create. a Note: Since a secondary A-Type Record is created without entering the host section (i.e.www), users can have access to your domain site without mentioning www, prior to the domain name. E.g. User will have acess to www.abcdexample.com, even if the address is entered as abcdexample.com, neglecting the initial www.
3.) Type-MX
MX record (Mail Exchange Record) is related to the Mail Servers present in your Domain's server. Its responsible for the reception of the emails based on their respective mail servers . Click on New Record : (i) Select the Type as MX. (ii) Leave the Host section blank. (iii) Enter TTL value as 14400. (iv) Set priority as 0. (v) Enter your Domain Name in the Data section. E.g. abcdexample.com mxx
4) Type-CNAME
CNAME record is utilised, when a domain's alias name is to be created. For example, an alias name of documents.example.com can be created as docs.example.com, using the CNAME record. Click on New Record : (i) Select the Type as CNAME. (ii) Enter mail in the Host section. (iii) Enter the value of TTL as 14400. (iv) Enter your Domain Name in the Data Section. E.g. abcdexample.com cnameClick Create . (v) Click on New Record, again. Follow the steps (i), (iii) & (iv). In the step (ii), replace mail with webmail and click Create . webmail
5.) Type-TXT
The TXT Domain Record provides information in regards to your server, data center or a network in a user readable format. For instance, you can verify the ownership of a domain using the TXT resource record . Click on New Record (i) Select the type as TXT. (ii) Leave the Host section blank. (iii) Enter the TTL value as 14400. (iv) Copy the below mentioned information, and paste it in the Data section :
v=spf1 a mx ip4:IP-ADDRESS(180.179.xx.xxx) ~all
Note: (180.179.xx.xxx) is an example Ip Address. Make sure, you enter your actual Ip Address within the braces . TXT Click Create.

Final Output :

Once you have successfully configured the above mentioned Record-Types for your domain, you will have a final output summary of your DNS records, similar to the below mentioned image : Screen Shot 2016-08-19 at 2.55.56 pm Note: Please, refresh the page, in case you fail to see the Domain RR's summary.
